General Description of Position:

 Assists in facilitating the activities of Disability Support Services (DSS).  DSS provides services to students with documented disabilities as defined by ADA guidelines, FERPA, and HIPPA.

Major Responsibilities:  
  • Arranges accommodations for students to assure equal access to education in accordance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Title II.
  • Collects documentation and assists in registering eligible students with DSS
  • Maintains DSS equipment and inventory
  • Assists director in assessing student and faculty needs and coordinates DSS efforts/response
  • Confidentially provides related services to DSS students
  • Interacts with note takers, tutors, faculty, and proctors re: student needs, progress and attendance
  • Monitors student note taker performance and provides feedback to director
  • Assists director in collecting, establishing and maintaining data/files pertaining to DSS
  • Assists director in evaluating DSS services and provides suggestions to director
  • Provides accurate and timely updates to director including monthly tally reports
  • Assures day to day activities of the DSS and staff are in accordance with FERPA and the current ADA and operational guidelines
  • Anticipates and requests necessary equipment and resources from DSS director
  • Encourages DSS students in utilizing effective learning and study techniques for college success
  • Maintains a professional, friendly and helpful atmosphere conducive to learning

Minimum Qualifications:


Associate degree in any basic skills discipline and two years’ experience working with students with disabilities required. A combination of education and directly related work experience may be substituted.  Must have leadership qualities, strong organizational skills, and an understanding of teaching delivery systems.  Proficient in Microsoft Office. Experience in database management.  A working knowledge of basic college students’ success techniques.  Self-initiating with strong written, verbal and uplifting interpersonal skills.
