General Description of Position:

 The Belden Workforce Training Program, an Ivy Tech Community College Richmond training initiative, focused on training 11th and 12th grade Richmond Career Center students to learn specific learning outcomes as approved by Belden, Inc., Ivy Tech Community College Richmond and Richmond Career Center. The program is designed for Belden Inc. to employ the trained 12th grade students during their second semester as a high school student intern. The Intern Coach is responsible for guiding the intern throughout the internship process

Major Responsibilities:  

The Intern Coach will familiarize the interns with Belden, provide assignments and serve as the go-to person for questions. It is recommended that the Intern Coach be connected with the type of work the intern will perform to provide appropriate guidance. If project work assignments and their priority are addressed at the internship onset, and appropriate training completed, the Intern Coach’s role will become less hands-on for the remainder of the internship. The Intern Coach will check in with the student’s progress regularly and be available to provide assistance as needed.

The Intern Coach will be in regular contact with the Richmond Career Center, Belden and Ivy Tech ensuring internship goals are being achieved. The Intern Coach will be the point of contact with the intern’s career center.

As a general guide, the Intern Coach’s responsibilities will include:

• Conducting an intern’s orientation
• Developing the intern’s work plan
• Meeting periodically with the intern to evaluate performance and if needs/goals are being met
• Having a flexible schedule of availability
• Providing feedback and constructive criticism
• Encouraging the intern to ask questions
• Assigning challenging tasks to the intern

Coordinate and facilitate at least four Belden plant tours with 11th grade students enrolled in training program cohort during their second semester (January – May).

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:


High school graduate or equivalent.

Ability to keep information confidential.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and general PC computer use.

Excellent human relations skills.

Preferred Qualifications:


Associate Degree preferred.

Retired Belden employee preferred.

Previous supervisory experience.

Other Requirements:


Work Hours:

 Beginning January 1, 2018.  Working spring terms only.  January - May each cycle through 2022.  approximately 16 hours week; $25 hour.
