General Description of Position:

The Assistant Director of Human Resources is responsible for providing employee recruitment and general human resource support to the Indianapolis Campus. This role administers human resources policies, procedures and programs and, in collaboration with functional HR leaders, carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: departmental development, Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), employee relations, training and development, and employment. The Assistant Director will support College-wide human resources programs, policies and processes and assist supervisors with employee relations matters. This position reports to the Director of Human Resources.  The Assistant Director originates and leads Human Resources practices and objectives within the department that will provide an employee-oriented, high performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity and standards, goal attainment, and the recruitment and ongoing development of a superior workforce.

Major Responsibilities: Customer Service : 
* Demonstrate a strong customer service advocacy through a positive attitude of approachability, adaptability, strong problem-solving and desire to identify and support applicant success. 
* Engage in behaviors that create an inclusive environment in which all are valued and supported. 
* Go beyond the easiest or surface answer for an employee, or an internal or external customer, and get to the root cause of the problem, question or issue to solve it as quickly and professionally as possible.
Recruitment:
* Maintain a high energy, high performance workforce.
* Oversee employee recruitment and retention.
*Develop and track measurable facets of the recruiting and hiring process so that the processes are transparent and measurable. 
*Set continuous improvement goals.
*Administrative duties and recordkeeping.
*Work with hiring managers on recruiting planning meetings.
*Conduct regular follow-up with managers to determine the effectiveness of recruiting plans and implementation.
*Conduct prescreening interviews.
*Maintain all pertinent applicant and interview data in the Human Resources Information System (HRIS).

Employee Relations
* Assist leadership in developing an employee-oriented culture that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, customer service and improvement.
* Provide supervisors and staff with guidance in employee relations matters.
* Work collaboratively with other members of the Indianapolis Campus Human Resources team to maintain consistency in communication and delivery of employee relations, benefits, talent development, and other HR related tasks.

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION:

* BA/BS degree in Business, Human Resources or related area

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

*  knowledge of Family Medical Leave Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, and other state/federal employment-related laws.

*  knowledge of EEO federal and state hiring regulations as well as labor law compliance.

* Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines, manage priorities and workflow.

* Ability to work independently and as a creative member of various teams.

* Proficient on Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word; experience with HRIS and applicant management systems a plus

* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to  work effectively with  diverse  individuals at all organizational levels and exercise good judgment.

* Ability to build and maintain trust and credibility at all levels of the organization.

* Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally and effectively in person, on the phone, via formal presentations, electronically or through other means to individuals or groups.

* Ability to promote an inclusive environment that reflects the broad diversity and backgrounds represented by our students and employees and which every individual feels respected and valued.

Preferred Qualifications: PHR/SPHR certification preferred

The ability and willingness to travel within the state will be required of the position
