General Description of Position:

Direct and manage the activities of the campus Career Development Office (CDO) for students and graduates within College policy and educational guidelines; develop and implement employment programs for graduates/alumni, students; act as fiscal officer for managing the CDO budget; provide leadership and vision for Career Development and professional team members; foster productive external relationships with business and industry; and expand collaboration between Career Development and other divisions within the College.

Major Responsibilities:

Responsible for the direction, development, implementation and evaluation of a centralized service. Set and carry out short and long range objectives. Maintain and develop on-going employer relations and job development programs. Document and maintain reporting and follow-up system for all placement activities. Provide leadership in developing and implementing placement policies and programs for students establishes placement priorities and identifies possible solutions. Oversee budget and reporting functions. Keep track of expenditures and required inventory support material. Develop fiscal purchasing procedures and ensure the adherence to established policies and procedures. Hire, train, and supervise CD personnel, work study and field study students. Design support staff job descriptions and performance reviews. Oversee all CD functions and activities including an annual job fair, orientations, workshops and seminars, and on-campus recruitment program. Work with Vice Chancellors of Student Success, Enrollment Services, and Academic Affairs, program advisors, faculty and staff in meeting overall objectives and plans for CD. Coordinate all record keeping and gathering of data for CD statistical accountability. Provide oversight of programming for Undecided students. Participate in academic advising for students. Advise students on experiential credit opportunities in the college. Maintain information on articulation agreements for transfer beyond the two-year program. Maintain information on scholarship opportunities for transfer beyond the two-year program. Provide programming for students interested in transfer to a four year institution. Conduct all activities within the established guidelines of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Have a basic familiarization with all academic programs: talking points content, employment trends, required skill sets, typical salaries, degrees and embedded professional credentials as well as transfer opportunities are expedient. Ability to work with local companies in ways relevant to the various schools on the campus.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required, in a related field—higher education administration, public administration, counseling and /or personnel relations. Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in career services and three (3) years of supervisory experience are required. Knowledge of employment laws. Good communication skills. Knowledge of personal computers.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple tasks and make decisions. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with both business and industry. Must possess an ability and willingness to travel.
