General Description of Position:

The Assistant Director of Human Resources is responsible for providing general human resource support to the Indianapolis Campus . This role administers human resources policies, procedures and programs and, in collaboration with functional HR leaders, carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: departmental development, Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), employee relations, training and development,and faculty/adjunct contract administration. The Assistant Director will support College-wide human resources programs, policies and processes and assist supervisors with employee relations matters. This position reports to the Director of Human Resources.  The Assistant Director originates and leads Human Resources practices and objectives within the department that will provide an employee-oriented, high performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity and standards, goal attainment, and the recruitment and ongoing development of a superior workforce.

Major Responsibilities:

Customer Service Overriding Expectation:

* Demonstrate a strong customer service and/or student advocacy through a positive attitude of approachability, adaptability, strong problem-solving and desire to identify and support student success.

* Engage in behaviors that create an inclusive environment in which all people are valued and supported.

* Go beyond the easiest or surface answer for a student, or an internal or external customer, and get to the root cause of the problem, question or issue to solve it as quickly and professionally as possible.

* Maintain a high energy, high performance work force.

* Work in conjunction with the payroll department on any issues surrounding pay issues.* Assist leadership in developing an employee-oriented culture that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, customer service and improvement.

* Provide supervisors and staff with guidance in employee relations matters.

* Administer personal, family, and medical leave requests.

* Faculty/Adjunct Contract Administration.

* Work collaboratively with other members of the Central Indiana Human Resources team to maintain consistency in communication and delivery of employee relations, benefits, talent development, onboarding, and other HR-related tasks.

Minimum Qualifications:

* BA/BS degree in Business, Human Resources or related area


* Experience in employee development programs aimed at supervisors and managers.

* Applied knowledge of Family Medical Leave Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, and other state/federal employment-related laws.

* Applied knowledge of EEO federal and state hiring regulations as well as labor law compliance.

* Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines, manage priorities and workflow.

* Ability to work independently and as a creative member of various teams.

* Proficient on Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word; experience with HRIS and applicant management systems a plus

* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels and exercise good judgment.

* Ability to build and maintain trust and credibility at all levels of the organization.

* Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally and effectively in person, on the phone, via formal presentations, electronically or through other means to individuals or groups.

* Ability to promote an inclusive environment that reflects the broad diversity and backgrounds represented by our students and employees and which every individual feels respected and valued.

Preferred Qualifications :

* PHR/SPHR certification preferred

* The ability and willingness to travel within the state will be required of the position.
