General Description of Position:

As the senior campus administrator, the Chancellor leads a committed team of faculty and staff dedicated to growing enrollment, retention, completions, and student success by providing accessible and affordable world-class education and training aligned with employer workforce needs and transfer opportunities.  The Chancellor consults with Systems Office in Indianapolis, Campus Board of Trustees, and campus Cabinet to: (1) achieve policy objectives and goals; (2) build new and varied community outreach and partnerships (3) expand the availability of the College's instructional and student support services; (4) lead the campus team to successfully meet campus-level metrics and recommend and lead a team to successfully implement strategies in order to meet the needs of a diverse community and student body on campus.

Major Responsibilities:

The next Chancellor of South Bend-Elkhart Campus will bring a high degree of energy, talent, and passion and leadership skills by performing the following tasks:

Leads planning and vision for the campus staff to ensure that campus enrollment (total and revenue-generating), completion, retention, and student success meet the campus- and system-level metrics established for the campus service area.

Communicates and creates a culture of accountability and empowerment relative to established metrics for campus enrollment (total and revenue-generating, completion, retention, and student success) to campus-level leaders.

Demonstrates commitment to sustaining diversity, equity and inclusion and a proven ability to work effectively with diverse communities.

Intentionally develops and expedites requests for new academic programs and services aligned with the Workforce Alignment Quadrant Analysis and guidance from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education.

Leads campus/community-level fundraising efforts of the College to ensure fundraising metrics (visits, asks, grant submissions, dollars raised, etc.) are met as established by the campus and Ivy Tech Foundation (Systems Office).

Develops, updates, and communicates short- and long-term goals for the campus. At a minimum, this will include programming, facilities, fundraising, revenue-generating enrollment, retention, completion, and placement.

Actively engages, participates, and encourages others to collaborate through learned matrix tools, such as the RASCI model, 4DX, and Simplex creative problem solving methodologies.

Leads organizational change management, continuous improvement, problem solving, and innovation at the campus-level.

Informs and executes strategic initiatives at the campus level.

Ensures the assessment of campus facility/space needs and investigation of alternative space solutions in alignment with the overall campus vision, key areas of focus (enrollment, completion, retention, student success), and associated metrics.

Employs campus-level faculty, administrative and support staffs necessary to successfully meet campus vision, key areas of focus (enrollment, completion, retention, student success), and associated campus- and system-level metrics and to ensure efficient campus operations.

Collaborates with Systems Office and campus-level functional area leaders to lead and guide each of the functional areas (i.e., academic affairs, enrollment management, student support, finance, facilities, marketing and communications, fundraising, human resources, and workforce alignment) in order to successfully meet the campus-and system-level metrics for revenue-generating enrollment, completion, retention, and student success.

Assures compliance with College policies and procedures in each campus-level, functional areas.

Regularly conducts meetings with the Campus Board of Trustees, reporting on significant developments of the campus, engaging the board in planning and fundraising processes for the campus, and seeking recommendations and approvals as required by legislation, local charters, and/or by-laws.

Cultivates and fosters the development of robust educational, business, and community leader partnerships within the service delivery area in order to successfully meet the campus-level metrics for revenue-generating enrollment, completion, retention, and student success.

Collaborates with other campus chancellors and Systems Office to set strategy, goals, and direction for the College.

Aligns college strategy and goals to support system-wide understanding, respect, and support for diversity among students, faculty, and staff.

Leads campus-level efforts to ensure access to state-of-the-art technology for students, faculty, and staff.

In collaboration with appropriate Systems Office leadership:

  • Assists with administration of academic programs and student success related services   in order to successfully meet the campus-level metrics for enrollment, completion, retention, and student success.
  • Develops and manages the campus budget; ensures operational costs are in line with relevant budgetary controls; manages the effective operations of the campus to deliver services to students and businesses and to achieve the agreed key performance measures.
  • Directs the assessment of facility/space needs, investigates alternative solutions, and guides the negotiations of leases and/or renovations or seeks approvals for construction, as appropriate.
  • Provides leadership in fundraising efforts to meet college and campus needs in partnership with campus/community-level development staff and the Ivy Tech Foundation (Systems Office). Leads outreach efforts to engage alumni, educational, business, local foundations, and community leaders within the campus service delivery area that result in resources to meet needs.
  • Develops working partnerships with the community, business, industry, and other 
    educational organizations to promote the College and campus and successfully meet the campus-level metrics for revenue-generating enrollment, completion, retention, and student success; develops programs and services that respond to their changing needs.
  • Provides support and assistance to Workforce Alignment initiatives, including relationship building with companies and building relationships with Workforce Alignment staff.
  • Guides the negotiation of leases and/or renovation or seeks approval for construction as aligned with the overall campus vision, key areas of focus (enrollment, completion, retention, student success), and associated metrics. 

Assures compliance with College policies and procedures in each of the functional areas of responsibility. Provides liaison between functional staff, shared services staff, and appropriate College Officers.

Represents Ivy Tech Community College, as required, by participating in state and local councils, committees, boards, organizations, and state and national conferences.

Participates in major campus events, ie graduation, luncheons, etc

Serves on functional and ad hoc committees as assigned.

Fully supports the College’s mission and strategic plan initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's Degree

Three or more years of substantial and successful leadership and management experience at the executive level required, preferably in a community college or other post-secondary institutions.

Possesses excellent organizational, planning, evaluation, interpersonal and communication skills and have an ability and willingness to travel.

Evidence of working with supporting adult students' success preferred.

Adept at resolving individual and group conflicts, and must have excellent written and oral communication skills.

Proven ability to identify key issues and to carry forward an idea or project from conception to execution.

Track record of thinking conceptually and mastering complex subject matter quickly.

Good judgment, discretion, tact and the ability to work easily with senior leaders within the higher education, charitable, government, and business sectors.

Ability to partner well with colleagues both in-and outside of the organization.

Ability to promote an inclusive environment that reflects the broad diversity and backgrounds represented by our students and employees and which every individual feels respected and valued.

Preferred Qualifications: Doctorate preferred
Search Timeline:

The following timeline has been developed to ensure a start date of June 3, 2019. Adjustments to this timeline may be made as necessary and should not be considered definite until candidates receive confirmation during the recruitment process. A mutually acceptable start date may be negotiated with the finalist.

February 13 – March 10, 2019

Recruiting and advertising begins. March 10 is the soft application deadline and while the position is open until filled, materials received by this date are guaranteed full consideration.

Week of March 11, 2019

Search Committee meets to review applications and determine applicants for first-round interviews.

Human Resources will conduct initial telephone calls with applicants.

Week of March 18, 2019

Search Committee conducts and reviews first-round telephone interviews with selected candidates.

Week of April 1, 2019

Selected candidates will be on-site for interviews with the search committee

Week of April 22, 2019

Final candidates will participate in a range of activities and meetings with senior College leadership, stakeholder groups, campus tour, and interactive employee forum. 

May 2019 - The South Bend-Elkhart Campus Chancellor is announced

June 3, 2019 (or mutually-agreed timeframe) – South Bend-Elkhart Campus Chancellor begins
