General Description of Position:

The University/Peer Tutor’s duties include supporting requests from the Lead Tutors. They will encourage students by providing a supportive attitude and helping to build student confidence. The tutors will service the needs of the tutees by being punctual and prepared for all tutoring appointments. University and Peer Tutors will participate in professional development training.

Major Responsibilities: Maintains records of weekly appointments. Takes active role in promoting the tutoring program on campus to faculty. Reports directly to the Lead Tutor(s) at that campus as to the needs and concerns related to the Tutoring Center. Performs duties to provide for the smooth operation of the campus Tutoring Center. Updates other Lead Tutor(s) about any performance and scheduling issues. Maintains organization and cleanliness within the Tutoring Center. Verifies that all textbooks are properly secured within cabinetry. Stays abreast of new applications such as MyLab training and supports the Regional Manager in providing needed materials for training sessions. Provides input as needed to update the Tutoring Operations Standards Manual. Conducts individual one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions. Explains concepts and asks questions that encourage students to think and work independently. Keeps necessary documentation/reports of own tutoring sessions. Assists in the development of positive study habits and study skills. Assists supervisor as needed in any other tasks related to promoting the Tutoring Center.
Minimum Qualifications:

Associate Degree preferred or in progress; strong G.P.A. Must have a 3.0 G.P.A in major field of study. Willing to assist students in other coursework besides major subject specialization. Able to communicate well with students and staff from all backgrounds, ages, and skill levels. Must possess strong level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality. Must work well with other tutors as a team.
