General Description of Position:

Under direction of the simulation coordinator, the lab technician will provide support for the health labs and nursing labs. The nursing/health sciences lab technician oversees the daily operations of the nursing and health labs and provides assistance to faculty and students. The lab technician is responsible for maintaining optimum calibration and the security of the laboratory equipment, materials, and supplies. The position is a part time position and flexibility of hours is required.

 
Major Responsibilities: Serve as the simulator operator running pre-programmed and/or scripted scenarios under the supervision of health and/or nursing faculty, including the simulation coordinator, and assist during scenarios as directed.

Coordinates and performs set up of rooms for simulation scenarios, including preparing moulage, setting up furniture, supplies, and equipment, and implementing scenarios or skills training.

Conducts routine inventory, stocks, and maintains appropriate levels of lab supplies, materials, and equipment for nursing and health labs.

Conduct routine maintenance of all equipment including cleaning and minor repairs assuring they are in working condition.

Maintain up to date records of care and maintenance of the simulation equipment.

Maintain current knowledge of simulation pedagogy and follow INASCL Standards of Best Practice.

Participate in professional development and/or simulation training as necessary.

Maintains confidentiality regarding simulation scenarios.

Adaptability to work a flexible schedule determined by simulation and health lab schedules.

Maintain clean and organized labs, including supply rooms.

Conducts tours and demonstrations.

Collects data for ongoing research or grant requirements
 
Minimum Qualifications: Understand the use and operation of multiple simulator technologies, including high and mid fidelity manikins and task trainers.

Knowledge and ability to use medical equipment (IV pumps, monitors, oxygen delivery systems, etc.).

Ability to set up and use video equipment

Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) to interact with and work effectively with other faculty, staff, students, and vendors in a positive, helpful and cooperative working relationship.

Skills in operating a PC and Mac with experience in MS Office and the ability to learn additional software programs, including audiovisual and computerized simulation equipment.

Clinical knowledge and experience working in a healthcare related field such as EMT, paramedic, or other credentialed allied health profession desired.

Experience with providing technical support in networking, computer hardware or software desired.

Knowledge of operation of standard audio-visual equipment: projectors, microphones, portable screens, media players, etc.

Mechanical skills to competently maintain and use equipment in the simulation center.

Organizational and time management skills to keep materials in order, track various projects, maintain files, and follow through assignments to completion.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.

Ability to quickly learn new technology.

Ability to express technical information clearly and simply to non-technical persons.

Availability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and weekends.

Physical ability to lift, move, maintain and set up computer, audio-visual and simulation lab equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. without assistance.
 
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in computer technology and troubleshooting with both PC and Mac platforms desired

Certification or degree in allied health preferred, such as Paramedic, EMT, Emergency Department Tech, C.N.A., Respiratory Therapist, Surgical Technologist, LPN, or Patient Care Technician

One year of experience in allied health profession preferred

Work Hours:
