General Description of Position:

The Director of Philanthropy is an integral part of the Foundation team and works closely with the Foundation staff, campuses and volunteers. This position is responsible for the planning, implementation, and execution of several functions including fundraising for statewide initiatives and event sponsorships, prospect research, proposal development and strategy, providing fundraising planning, support and coordination to our campus Development leads in single staff units, and management of the planned giving newsletter communications and strategy.

Major Responsibilities:

FUNDRAISING FOR STATEWIDE INITIATIVES AND EVENT SPONSORSHIPS:
Solicit individuals, corporations, foundations, and organizations for statewide initiatives and event support in partnership with the campuses and Foundation Leadership.

Organize efforts to support the Sponsorship Taskforce including fundraising planning and development of solicitation materials.

Coordinate and execute the advancement of relationships with prospective donors through appropriate stages of the donor cycle (identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship).

Provide stewardship of sponsorship gifts including acknowledgement process, coordinating talking points in partnership with events team, and working with the Foundation stewardship staff on appropriate recognition.

Ensure effective records maintenance using the Foundations CRM, including recording new proposals, tracking the status of proposals, and recording contact reports in a timely manner.

PROSPECT RESEARCH AND PROPOSAL DEVELOPMENT AND STRATEGIES:
Using a broad spectrum of sources, research, organize, and evaluate a prospect’s financial capacity, ability to give, willingness to give, charitable interests, and connection to the organization

Produce in-depth, well-written reports or briefings on prospects based on a combination of data from the donor database, available financial records, real estate ownership, and other markers of high quality donors.

Develop proposals and templates for the use of the campus fundraising teams, as well as assisting with statewide proposal asks.

Work with other fundraising staff to enhance the process and coordination of multi-campus proposals, asks and stewardship of those gifts.

FUNDRAISING PLANNING, SUPPORT AND COORDINATION TO DIRECTORS OF DEVELOPMENT AT SINGLE STAFF CAMPUSES:
Serve as primary point of contact to the Development leads at single development staff units.

Assist in fundraising planning and coordination of resource needs including pipeline development, board engagement and identifying training needs in partnership with the Assistant Vice President of Philanthropy.

PLANNED GIVING NEWSLETTER COORDINATION:
Coordinate newsletter topics and customized stories.

Provide memos to inquiries and manage response mailings including tracking in prospect management system.

Coordinate and implement action plan to ensure inquiries are connected to campus fundraising leaders.

Replenishing and refreshing the prospects for the planned giving constituent distribution.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required.

Two years of progressive fundraising or similar experience, preferably in higher education or with a not-for-profit organization required.

Must have working knowledge of principles of philanthropy and fundraising, including annual and major gift campaigns, research development, and/or planned giving.

Must be a self-starter with excellent planning, execution, and evaluation skills.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a variety of constituents, verbally and in written form required.

Must be a results-oriented team player with proven track record of accomplishing goals.

Capability to build partnerships with internal and external groups for the overall success of the organization required.

Must possess high ethical standards for fundraising and donor relations and demonstrated ability to exercise confidentiality with information and financial transactions.

Must demonstrate ability to promote an inclusive environment that reflects the broad diversity and backgrounds represented by our students and employees and which every individual feels respected and valued.

Must have willingness and ability to travel with some evening and weekend work.
