General Description of Position:

Provides leadership to the instructional design team and College for a specific specialty area (open education resources) of instructional design or education technology. The Senior Instructional Designer places emphasis on developing processes and procedures related to their specialty. The position supports to College in projects related to distance education, instructional design, open education resources, and instructional technology.

Major Responsibilities:

Collaborate with faculty members as subject matter experts in the development and maintenance of open education resources and courses using open education resources.

Ensure the quality of course design, through the use of established rubrics/processes for evaluating and approving the use of open educational resources

Work with curriculum committees and other governing bodies at the College regarding matters of open education resource content as well as other projects related to instructional design, content development and curation, and educational technology.

Provides leadership to various teams and stakeholders related to their specialty area.

Develops and implements college policy related to their specialty area.

Ensures timely and accurate communication and implementation of decision-making processes related to projects and their specialty area.

Assists in research, promotion, and writing of grants or proposals to support the College, the instructional design team, open education resources, and IvyOnline where appropriate with specific emphasis on opportunities related to their specialty area.

Assist in the identification and implementation of open education resources with other appropriate parties at the College.

Promote and further OER initiatives across the College and outside of the College.

Other duties logically associated with the position may be assigned.

SUPERVISION GIVEN: Course developers and mentors

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in instructional design or related field required.

A minimum of five years of relevant experience in instructional design, educational technology, or related field sufficient to make informed decisions about instructional design, educational technology, or other practices required.

A minimum of two years of relevant experience related to their area of specialty.

Must be familiar with common educational technologies such as learning management systems, digital content provider platforms, online collaboration tools, open education resource platforms and vendors, and other technology platforms as it relates to specialty area.

Must have excellent verbal, written, and technology-based communication skills.

Must demonstrate ability to work independently and collaboratively and ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and projects required.

Must have a willingness and ability to travel.

Must demonstrate ability to promote an inclusive environment that reflects the broad diversity and backgrounds represented by our students and employees and which every individual feels respected and valued.

Preferred Qualifications:

Doctorate in instructional design, instructional systems, or related field.

Knowledge related to Creative Commons licensing and copyright.

Canvas knowledge.

Experience in higher education.
