General Description of Position:

The Director of Community Engagement consults with the Chancellor and Campus Executive Leadership team to maintain and build new and varied community outreach partnerships, expanding the availability of the College’s instructional and student support services to the broader community. This position will develop strategies to meet the needs of a diverse community and student body on campus and in the service area aligning with the community’s workforce needs while achieving increased student enrollment, retention and success.

Major Responsibilities:
Support the development of community engagement strategies for the Indianapolis service area including Marion, Boon and Hendricks Counties
 Maintain relationships and develop working partnerships with the service area community, business, industry and other educational organizations to promote the College and the service area
 Support community relations outreach efforts in collaboration with appropriate departments across campus
 Identify curricular and programing needs within the designated communities and report those needs to members of the Indianapolis Campus Executive Leadership Team
 Assist in maintaining relationships with area high schools and career center partners; in collaboration with the Director of K-14 Initiatives,
 Assist with retention efforts services to special populations within the service area community on an as needed basis
 Represent Ivy Tech Community College Indianapolis as requested by participating in local councils, committees, boards and organizations.
 Participate in campus events as needed
 Oversee the Office of Community Engagement space
 Provides vision, leadership, management, and strategic planning for inclusion and equity programming across campus
 Maintains positive working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
 Works closely and collaboratively with other departments across the Indianapolis service area
 Represents the College at various community, civic, professional meetings, and conferences, as requested
 This is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with this role may be assigned. All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements and professional standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree required; 
Knowledge and familiarity of the Indianapolis Campus service area communities including community priorities and local issues/history, politics.

Understanding of community engagement in an academic collegial setting
Experience working with diverse community groups required.
Must demonstrate effective communication skills, both orally and in writing. Multilingual preferred
Good judgment, discretion, tact and the ability to work easily with senior leaders within the higher education, charitable, government, and business sectors is required.
Must demonstrate ability to partner well with colleagues both in and outside of the organization.
Must possess valid driver’s license and have ability and willingness to travel. Must have the willingness and ability to occasionally travel on College business, be willing to work occasional extended hours with notice, and be willing and capable of communication outside of normal work hours.
 
Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree and/or related professional certification preferred.
